Reviews

VERDI'S LA TRAVIATA "Michael Corvino was splendid as Germont: Solidly on the note, rounded in tone, his phrasing inexorable." NEW YORK TIMES Paul Griffiths. "Michael Corvino as Germont, Alfredo's father sang commandingly and consistently, portraying a man who is used to getting what he wants through the sheer force of his presence." NEWSDAY Joshua Rosenblum. Bronx born baritone Michael Corvino was excellent as Germont. Singing with controlled intensity, Mr. Corvino expressed wisdom and regret, compassion and honor with richness of tone and precision of diction. At City Opera it's all about potential, and he seems to have it by the bagful.... suffice it to say that his "Di Provenza il mar," Verdi's soothing barcarolle for Venice, was the highlight of the evening." NEW YOUR SUN Fred Kirsnit. VERDI'S RIGOLETTO "Michael Corvino who impressed in the title role of last season's Nabucco and as Madama Butterfly's Sharpless delivered again with resonant baritone which completed ever act and emotion." SALT LAKE TRIBUNE Robert Coleman. "Michael Corvino was superb in the title role of Rigoletto. His is a strong rich voice with a solid sense of pitch." NEWS PRESS "Michael Corvino a Sarasota veteran, is heroic and pathetic as Rigoletto, using his strong baritone to perfectly balance the two personalities." SARASOTA OBSERVER June LeBell "OBS's production, in the end, was most impressive because of the power and precision of it's leads, especially with baritone Michael Corvino in the lead role." SANTA BARBARA NEWS PRESS. Josef Woodard Michael Corvino is a first rate Rigoletto who commands a biting steely tone when he is evil and employs a vulnerable lyric timbre as the suffering father. Frankfurter Rundschau Von Hans-Jurgen Linke Baritone Michael Corvino not only sang beautifully and with great passion but his voice captured both the strength and vulnerability of the character. His performance was simply riveting and could easily become a signature role he performed it so well. There are many reasons to see this Rigoletto and Mr.Corvino's powerhouse performance is clearly at the top of the list. Opera Online.us Paul Joseph Walkowski.
